And this weeks Friday night movie has been.... Klara and the Sun!
I didn't have much of a plan to see this. Sure the trailer looked interesting but that's what trailers are supposed to do. What really turned me off was the surprisingly hostile treatment this movie received, suggesting that perhaps director Taika Waititi and star Jenny Ortega both didn't have the Midas Touch that many believed they do. But then. Kiera dragged me to see this so here we go.
One thing that stood out to me is that this movie has numerous references to the Hans Christian Anderson fairy-tale The Steadfast Tin Solider. I don't know whether if that was the intention of the movie or something taken from the source material but it concerned me as I've hated the tale of The Steadfast Tin Solider.
Sarcasm aside, I did enjoy this movie. There was a lot to like about it, with some decent laughs and some real imagination at work. Sure there could've been some more added to the world building and some ideas get thrown by the wayside but there is a genuine heart here (granted that may be down to the source material than the movie but still...).
And the autistic in me found a resemblance in Klara herself :)
